THE CENTRAL IDEA
BEFORE CHOOSING,
WE MUST BE ABLE TO CHOOSE.
You may already know what you would like to change.
A job. A situation. A relationship. A trajectory that has grown too narrow.
And yet, knowing what we want does not always mean being able to choose it.
Because every major decision has a price: capital, time, skills, rights, a reserve, an alternative — and, very often, the ability to absorb a loss without allowing everything else to collapse.
The Price of Choice begins with one essential question:
What must already exist for a choice to become genuinely possible?
The book offers a framework for understanding what makes a decision too costly today, assessing our real capacity to change and progressively building the conditions that will allow us to choose differently tomorrow.
WHAT EXISTS BEFORE THE CHOICE
THE PRICE OF CHOICE
What we must be able to commit, risk or absorb for a decision to become genuinely available.
THE CAPACITY TO ACT
What we can actually mobilise when circumstances change — not simply what we appear to possess.
ROOM TO CHOOSE
The distance between the options we would like to have and those genuinely available to us today.
THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU IF…
- You know what you would like to change, but the consequences still seem too costly.
- Your security depends heavily on one income, one person, one client, one company or a single set of circumstances.
- You have built a great deal — and refuse to put everything at risk in order to regain greater freedom.
- You want to increase your options before you need to use them.
WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK
For more than fourteen years, aviation taught me that a good pilot never builds safety around a single assumption.
A pilot knows the destination, monitors the available resources and prepares an alternative — not because they expect to use it, but because they want to preserve the ability to change course.
Later, I came to understand how rarely we apply this logic to our own lives.
We sometimes call “stability” an architecture that works perfectly — until something changes.
The Price of Choice grew out of one question:
How do we build enough room to manoeuvre so that the unexpected does not decide entirely for us?

IN THE MEANTIME…
WHAT CHOICE WOULD YOU LIKE
TO MAKE POSSIBLE?
You do not need to make that decision today.
But you can already understand what keeps it beyond reach — and what must be built for it to become possible.
